Decision notices sent out
August 2010; The Cook County Board of Review has certied assessments for Stickney Township. Property owners who filed tax appeals with the Board should receive decision notices by the end of the month.
Any changes in assessed value will be reflected on second installment property tax bills.
Proposed assessments for 2010 tax year
July 2010; The Cook County Assessor's Office has begun to mail out proposed assessment notices for the 2010 tax year. Property owners in Stickney Township can expect their proposed assessment notices by the end of October 2010.
Any proposed assessment changes for the 2010 tax year will be reflected on second inistallment tax bills.
Long-Time Occupant Exemption
JUNE 2010; Taxpayers in Stickney Township, and throughout Cook County, have an opportunity to apply for the Long-Time Occupant Exemption.
For the 2009 tax year, eligible property owners must have owned and occupied their residence from January 1, 1999 through January 1, 2009 as well as have a total household income of $100,000 or less.

MAY 2010; The time to file property tax appeals for the 2009 tax year has come and gone for property owners in Stickney Township. Taxpayers looking to file an appeal will have to wait until the 2010 proposed assessments are mailed out by the County Assessor's Office.
Time to file a property tax appeal
APRIL 2010; Is your 2009 proposed assessment fair? Property owners have a second opportunity to file a property tax appeal with the Cook County Board of Review. The Board of Review will accept assessed valuation complaints from Stickney Township taxpayers until May 5, 2010.

APRIL 2010; Once again it appears the scam artists have made their return to our area. The Stickney Township Assessor's Office has received information that residential property owners are being misled into signing away some or all of their property tax overpayment to third party representatives.
While it is legal to hire an attorney or consultant, homeowners have the right to represent themselves at any level of the property tax system - for free!
Our office encourages all taxpayers to utilize the services provided by their local Township Assessor's Office.
Property Tax Outreach
MARCH 2010; The Cook County Board of Review will hold a Property Tax Outreach for residential property owners in Stickney Township. Commissioner Larry Rogers' staff from the Board of Review will be on hand to answer questions from taxpayers about their property tax situation. They will also assist taxpayers in filling out the necessary forms to file an assessed valuation complaint for the 2009 property tax year.
Taxpayers are required to bring their most recent tax bill to be eligible for on-site filing.
The outreach will be held at the following dates and locations:

- March 11, 2010 @ 11:00 AM; 4949 S Long Ave, Chicago, IL

First Installment Tax Bills
FEBRUARY 2010; First installment tax bills for the 2009 property tax year will be mailed to taxpayers in the first week of February. The due date for the first installment is March 2, 2010. The first installment is 55% of the the prior year's total property tax.
Decision notices for appeals
JANUARY 2010; The Stickney Township Assessor's Office anticipates that decisions notices for Assessor-level tax appeals will be sent out by the end of the month or early February. Property owners who are not satisfied with the County Assessor's decision can file a second appeal with the Cook County Board of Review.

DECEMBER 2009; The time to file property tax appeals for the 2009 tax year has come and gone for property owners in Stickney Township. Taxpayers who missed the County Assessor's deadline have a second chance to file with the Cook County Board of Review sometime in March of 2010.
UPDATE - Second Installment Due Date
NOVEMBER 2009; It is official - the Cook County Treasurer recently announced that second installment property tax bills will be due Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Tax bills should be arriving in mailboxes before November 1, 2009.
Time to file a property tax appeal
NOVEMBER 2009; Is your 2009 property assessment fair? Assessment notices for Stickney Township will be mailed on October 23, 2009. The deadline to file an appeal with the Cook County Assessor will be November 24, 2009. Residential property owners can file their own appeal online at the County Assessor's website during this time.
Taxpayers who miss filing a property tax appeal with the County Assessor will have a second chance to file with the Cook County Board of Review sometime next year.
2009 Proposed Assessments
OCTOBER 2009; The Stickney Township Assessor's Office anticiaptes that 2009 proposed assessments will be mailed out by the end of the month. Property owners have 30 days after notification to file an appeal on their property assessment.
Second Installment Due Date
OCTOBER 2009; The Cook County Treasurer's Office anticipates a due date of no earlier than November 16, 2009 for property tax bills for tax year 2008.
Second installment due dates vary year to year. This is because the second installment bill relies on data from other state and municipal agencies. Triennial re-assessments, tax appeals, exemptions, the state equalization factor, and local tax rates have to be calculated before tax bills can be printed. The calculation of local tax rates is the final stage of the process.
10/25 Ordinance
SEPTEMBER 2009; The Cook County Board of Commissioners passed a new law that changed the assessment levels for property in Cook County. Starting with the 2009 property tax year, residential property will be assessed at 10% of its market value. Commercial and industrial property will be assessed at 25% of its market value.
Prior to the ordinance, residential property was assessed at 16%, commercial property was assessed at 38%, and industrial property at 36%.
Decision notices sent out
AUGUST 2009; The Cook County Board of Review will be sending out decision notices to taxpayers in Stickney Township who filed tax appeals on their property assessments. Any reductions in assessed value that a property receives will be reflected in the second installment property tax bill.
County Assessor closing branch office locations
JULY 2009; The Cook County Assessor's Office has closed its Maywood branch location. The Bridgeview location is scheduled to close by the end of summer. The Stickney Township Assessor's Office will take over services for township residents.
